BOOM! Studios has announced a partnership with webcomic publishers Tapas Media to create what BOOM! is calling “bite-sized stories”.
The first story to be adapted into Tapas’ mobile-friendly format will be Carly Usdin and Nina Vakueva’s Heavy Vinyl: Riot on the Radio. A new Heavy Vinyl OGN will also debut on Tapas.
“Getting the opportunity to work with a once-in-a-generation editor like Shannon Watters is a dream come true for us,” said Tapas Media Editor-In-Chief Michael Son. “From The Avant-Guards, Fence, and Heavy Vinyl, BOOM! Studios is showcasing that they’re incredibly forward thinking when it comes to storytelling both from a narrative and talent perspective. Heavy Vinyl in particular is full of deeply relatable characters that capture all the nuances, excitement and honesty of growing up, Nina Vakueva and Carly Usdin did a spectacular job, and I can’t wait for it to grace Tapas.”
“We can’t wait to showcase Heavy Vinyl on Tapas,” added Tapas CEO Chang Kim. “The art style and writing make it a perfect fit for the webcomic audience, and we know that our readers are going to love it just as much as we did. What’s most exciting for us is taking a physically published comic and giving it new life and a new readership with our mobile apps, creating synergies between print and digital.”
“We’re excited to to kick off our partnership with Tapas Media by bringing the exciting world of Heavy Vinyl to millions of new readers,” said BOOM! Studios President Filip Sablik. “From Riot on the Radio to a brand new original graphic novel, fans of Heavy Vinyl will enjoy seeing the way Tapas has adapted and expanded the world of your favorite teen vigilante fight club to their platform.”
No release date for the Tapas version of Heavy Vinyl or the new OGN have been announced.
