The College Board, the nonprofit group that owns the SAT, is using the college-admissions exam to sell test-takers’ names and personal information to universities, per a great report by The Wall Street Journal.
The data is want by schools who then entice students to apply, thereby inflating their rejection rates and boosting their image of exclusivity. The College Board, which sells the data at 47 cents a head, also wins financially as students become more motivated to pour further time and money into retaking SATs, per the report.
