Sad news today, ABC’s single-camera sitcom Fresh Off the Boat has been cancelled. The series will end with its current sixth season hour-long series finale on February 21st. The show is averaging 3.2 million viewers in Live+7 this season.
The show first came to ABC in 2015 and will hit the century episode (100) mark, which should help the show in the syndication market place.
Star Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians) voiced her displeasure on social media when the show was renewed for a sixth season earlier this year, clarifying later that she was forced to give up working on another project due to her commitments to the series.
A potential spinoff series titled Magic Motor Inn would focus on an Indian family whose daughter goes to school with Eddie Huang (Hudson Yang). But there will not be a backdoor pilot for the show, instead a traditional pilot season episode would need to filmed.
