Sony Pictures has released an international trailer and two featurettes for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, the biopic starring Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers.
Non-US audiences are far less familiar with the man and so the trailer has a slightly different story angle than the U.S. version.
Marielle Heller (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”) directs the film that’s loosely based on a 1998 Esquire article and follows a jaded magazine writer (Matthew Rhys) who is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers (Hanks) but is doubtful of Rogers’ optimism.
Over time, the two form a friendship and he overcomes his scepticism, learning about empathy, kindness and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor. Chris Cooper also stars in the film which was penned by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.
The film was shot in the original studio in Pittsburgh where Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” was filmed.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood opens in U.S. cinemas November 22nd.
