Universal’s Andrew Lloyd Weber musical adaptation Cats is on track for a $100 million in theatrical loss per the street and rival studio executives.
So far the film adaptation has managed only $38 million globally box office take after two weeks in cinemas. In the U.S. the film has slipping to ninth place with just $8.7 million over the five-day holiday frame.
Officially Cats cost $90 million to produce and along with additional $115 million for global marketing and distribution fees. Plus, Universal has issued new prints of the movie with improved visuals during opening weekend at unknown additional cost.
Most have the film at best doing $30 million in the United States.
