Epix has officially renewed their Forest Whitaker-led crime drama series Godfather of Harlem for a ten-episode second season which will shoot later this year. The series tripled previous viewership numbers for the network and earned solid reviews.
Whitaker plays crime boss Bumpy Johnson who, in the early 1960s, returns after tens years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy takes on the Genovese crime family to regain control.
During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X (Nigel Thatch) – catching his political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart. Vincent D’Onofrio, Giancarlo Esposito, Rafi Gavron, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy and Ilfenesh Hadera co-starred.
