Skyhook today announced that the U.S. Patent Office recently allowed the following four patent applications:
- U.S. Patent No. 7,768,963: System and method of improving sample of WLAN packet information to improve Doppler frequency of a WLAN positioning device.
- App#:11/950,178: Location-based services that choose location algorithms based on number of detected access points within range of a user device.
- App#:11/950,242: Location-based services that choose location algorithms based on number of detected access points within range of a user device.
- App#:11/430,079: Estimation of speed and direction of travel in a WLAN positioning system.
These inventions are the result of years of research into optimizing Wi-Fi location for mobile devices and further establish Skyhook as the leader in this area. These new awards join 11 other Skyhook patents covering the building blocks for Wi-Fi positioning on mobile devices. Skyhook’s location system is now deployed on tens of millions of devices around the world and powers thousands of mobile applications.
“As the inventors of this technology, we continue to expand our portfolio of intellectual property covering the core techniques of building and managing a Wi-Fi location database along with the advanced positioning techniques required to provide a reliable location platform,” said Skyhook’s Founder and CEO Ted Morgan. “These new patent awards will further protect the assets we have developed and provide security to all our customers.”
