Kingston today unveiled its first USB 3.0 thumb drive, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0. The drive is available in three capacities, at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Manufacture estimates give it a write speed of 60MBps and a read speed of 80MBps – much faster than USB 2.0.
A Y cable is included with each Ultimate 3.0 thumb drive for backwards compatibility with USB 2.0. Kingston’s tests have shown that a 3.9GB movie could be copied to the drive in 1 minute and 13 seconds.
The 16GB Ultimate 3.0 USB drive will cost $89 for the 16GB model, the 32GB mobel will cost $138 and the 64GB model wil cost $270.
