The new TIVO box for DirectTV which was set to be released before the end of 2010 has now been delayed until 2011 per a PC mag report. CEO Tom Rogers has indicated that beta testing for the device will continue into next January.
The set-top-box space has become very crowded with Tivo facing competition from the Google TV, Roku, Apple and Boxee to name a few. According to TiVo’s senior VP of consumer sales, Joe Miller, TiVo’s advantage is its interface and the strategic content delivery partnerships that it has been cultivating with DirectTV, Cox, Spain’s ONO, RCN and Suddenlink. This may lead Tivo to become amore a service than hardware vendor.
