StumbleUpon has announced enhancements to StumbleUpon Video, a personalized video discovery engine through which users can now find, watch, rate and share videos from multiple sites, including YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo, CollegeHumor and TED. StumbleUpon Video is designed to also now be more social, allowing users to discover and watch their friends’ favorite videos and recommend videos to anyone.

“To date there hasn’t been an easy way to discover compelling video content from across the web within one simple interface,” said Garrett Camp, StumbleUpon CEO and co-founder. “With the new StumbleUpon Video, we’re bringing serendipity to channel surfing, giving people an alternative to television that is more interactive, diverse and personalized.”

StumbleUpon Video recommends video content using dozens of individual and social signals. By understanding people’s preferences and their shared interests with friends and like-minded users, the StumbleUpon Video experience becomes increasingly tuned to each individual’s interests over time.

The addition of new channels to StumbleUpon Video also gives sites like TED.com, which offers 18-minute talks from luminaries in a wide range of fields, access to a wider audience.

“Being a featured channel in StumbleUpon Video gives us the chance to bring TEDTalks to millions of new viewers,” says June Cohen, Executive Producer of TED Media. “TED’s mission is to spread ideas, and StumbleUpon Video offers a fun new way to engage an audience and expose them to a cross-section of our content.”
