The long-awaited Android 2.1 update for the Motorola Cliq at T-Mobile has gone live. It needs to be downloaded manually from Motorola’s website and isn’t yet available as an over-the-air update. The process is a little more complicated and requires a number of steps, though it is detailed here.
The update brings with it enhancements in Google Maps, including speech-to-text, turn-by-turn navigation and voice search.
The home screen will have more space on it and widgets can now be re-sized or rearranged. Users will get the option of customizing Happenings and Messaging widgets by selecting the updates and messages they want to see. Favorite contacts can be assigned a spot on the home screen along with quick actions.
Battery-life saving widgets are also new, allowing users to toggle their Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi features. A Task Manager will also be part of the update.
Music lovers will now have the option of downloading music over Amazon MP3 and expanding their music listening selection with the Connected Music Player.
