AMD today pushed back the launch of its Radeon HD 6900 series by three weeks. Originally due as soon as the last week of November, the top-end graphics cards will ship sometime during the week of December 13. No explanation was given beyond existing models were still in demand.
When launched, the 6900 series should include three models all targeted at high end desktops. The 6950 should be the most mainstream design and a main replacement for the 5850. The 6970, whose increases in texture units and other optimizations could push it significantly past the 5870. The 6990 should be a dual-chip design that replaces the 5970 and uses dual 6950 processors.
