The Economist has launched native iPad and iPhone versions of its news and finance magazine. The apps offer three options for reading each issue. Most users will have stick to free content, narrowed down by the editor, or download individual issues at a cost of $6 each. Online or print subscribers get full access.
Each issue is downloaded to an iPad or iPhone so it can be read offline. Content is mostly identical to the print edition, offering few extra features beyond the original text and images. Each article does, however, include the option of full audio narration.
Sans subscription costs, both apps are free downloads from the App Store.
