LaCie has teamed up with 180-year-old Parisian silver design house Christofle to produce a silver-plated, pebble-shaped 4GB USB flash drive called “Galet” that is intended to match silver jewelry and other adornments to provide practical, secure storage in an artfully executed form factor that speaks of beauty and luxury.
The drive, which sells for $130, is plated with silver using Christofle’s 150-year-old silvering process, carefully inspected and shipped in its own pouch and gift box from LaCie’s Paris factory. The drive includes LaCie’s password-protection software (which runs only on Intel Macs) and a matching amount of online storage via Wuala, providing extra protection, and is USB 3 compatible. It weighs a mere 1.34 ounces and comes with an optional strap for adding onto a keychain, measuring 3.5 x 1.5 x 0.35 inches. The drive is compatible with all Macs capable of supporting USB2.
Galet is available through LaCie’s online store or via Christofle boutiques worldwide.
