Charter Communications and TiVo have announcemed that they will cooperate to bring TiVo’s interface to Charter’s set-tops. The hybrid platform will bring the standard cable experience and include both TiVo’s newer HD user interfaces which are currently running on TiVo’s Premiere boxes. Future TiVo platforms will also be used, adding new services and third-party apps.
Through this deal, Charter subsribers will have video on demand, Internet video and other IP-based apps. The first products will be capable of showing local news, sports and weather info in addition to Facebook and Twitter access, just like the standard TiVo interface. The OnDemand feature will let users choose from the more than 900 HD titles in Charter’s library. The DVR will also allow for up to 45 hours of HD program storage.
The new products and services will launch in Charter markets later this year.
