Samsung has expanded it US Camera offerings today with two new models to serve entry level photographers. The ES80 and PL20 both have 5X (27-135mm) lenses and rely on digital image stabilization to keep the price low. Its PL20 is the more advanced of the two with a 14-megapixel sensor, 720p video, in-camera effects filters and a lithium-ion battery.
The ES80 trims down by using a 12-megapixel sensor and VGA video. A swap to AA batteries makes it potentially more useful for tourists not certain they’ll have access to a wall outlet.
The PL20 ships first and will be ready in March for $120. Regardless of its cost savings, the ES80 will cost just $20 less at $100 when it arrives in April.
