Sigma has announced a new digital compact camera, the 14-megapixel DP2x. An evolution of the DP2 model, it features the same Foveon X3 ASP-C sensor found in the SD14 DSLR. It gets a new AF algorithm for high-speed autofocus and has an Analog Front End that converts full color data into a digital signal.
A non-removable 24.2mm, f2.8 lens is part of the specs and was designed just for the DP2x. The camera can record in JPEG or a RAW data (X3F) mode. A nine-point focusing area, 2.5-inch LCD and a manual focus are other main features of the shooter. The movie recording mode limits the resolution to an uncharacteristically low 320×240 pixels at 30FPS, however.
The DP2x will ship with Sigma Photo Pro software for converting RAW data. Sigma is not disclosing prices or release dates for the DP2x at this time.
