Olympus has brought out three new cameras that each promised a step up even from last month CP+ launches. The SZ-20 and SZ-30MR both have 16-megapixel, back-illuminated CMOS sensors that are at once low-light friendly but also capable of shooting 1080p video. The SZ-30MR uses dual processors and can record full-quality video and photos at the same time, different resolutions, or even with and without image filters.
Apart from the dual processing, the two mostly differ in lens performance. The SZ-30MR shoots at 24X (25-600mm) zoom, while the SZ-20’s 12.5X (24-300mm) lens and single processor helps it shoot in a more portable body. Either has a three-inch preview LCD, an ISO 80 to 3,200 sensitivity range and official Eye-Fi card support. Like models already shown earlier this year, the new updates can produce pseudo-3D by stitching together two shots for the stereoscopic effect.
A new flagship rugged camera, the Tough TG-810, is also making an appearance. The design still shoots at 14 megapixels with a 5X, 28-140mm lens, but is hardened further than the TG-610 that just arrived: it can take larger drops of 6.5 feet (up from five) and can take up to 220 pounds of pressure. It can capture both 720p video as well as artificial 3D, and has the same three-inch, 920,000-pixel LCD to get previews.
Launch details have only been given out for the UK at this time, but the TG-810 will be ready in late March for £270 ($440) including tax. Both of the new SZ models are due in late April and will start at £220 ($359) for an SZ-20 and £300 ($489) for the SZ-30MR. Most Olympus cameras reach the US and due to US market factures the cameras may cost less in the states.
