Vimeo today has given iPhone users an alternative to iMovie on Tuesday through its own free iPhone app . The app both plays Vimeo clips but lets users record and edit movies using similar linear timeline. It also lets users stitch together clips and add multiple audio backdrops, titles, and transitions.
The app also brings audio level adjustment, sharing to social services like Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr, and metadata editing before it goes live. Although it’s chiefly intended for uploading to Vimeo in either HD or SD, videos can be saved back to the camera roll and either synced with a computer or even uploaded to YouTube.
Not iPad 2 Native
Vimeo is also promising more support than Apple and will let iPhone 3GS users shoot and edit video along with iPhone 4 and fourth-generation iPod touch owners. The app isn’t iPad-native but will work with the iPad 2’s cameras.
An Android version of the app is in development but doesn’t yet have an estimated completion date.
