NTI Corporation has announced two new “pocket backup” products for both Mac and Windows that will be offered to OEM makers and resellers of USB and SSD flash drives for their customers. Pocket Data Backup offers a secure and easy-to-use program for selecting pre-defined file types for both Mac and Windows by simply moving the “installer-less” application to their thumb drive (also works with SSD and HD drives), while Pocket PC Protection offers Windows users a cloning tool running under Linux that enables the USB drive bootable.
The two programs offer drive manufacturers the opportunity to add value to their product by including simple, portable and compact backup and restore solutions along with the drive itself. Pocket Data Backup offers simple checkboxes for users to choose what to backup by grouping (such as pictures, documents, bookmark files or Address Book information), and the program searches for all files that meet the criteria and stores them hierarchically on the selected target drive. The program is available for both Windows and Mac OS X users and can identify file types associated with alternate applications (for example, choosing to back up bookmarks backs up bookmarks from all popular browsers, not just Safari or Firefox).
By using Linux as the bootup system for the other offering, Pocket PC Protection, the system is small enough to fit on almost any sized flash drive and still able to create a compressed drive image backup to either itself or another drive. Both programs enable users to protect all or part of their most valuable data in a form that they can carry with them at all times and update at their convenience.
The software is designed to run on all USB storage devices and supports multiple languages. The programs can be customized with the logo of the OEM or reseller if desired, and business site licenses are available.
