Rambus has destroyed documents that relate to patent cases it filed, a US appeals court said. Despite this, judges asked a lower court to review its decision to throw out a lawsuit. Memory chip makers Micron and Hynix Semiconductor, both of whom were involved in a lawsuit against Rambus, accused Rambus of destroying documents that were relevant to the case.
“It is undisputed that Rambus destroyed between 9,000 and 18,000 pounds of documents in 300 boxes,” the appellate court said.
Micron won in a US Delaware court when a judge invalidated 12 patents after the judge said Rambus’ document destruction was the reason for this. In California, however, Rambus won against Hynix, upholding nine of its patents were valid and had been infringed.
