While all eyes of the gaming industry and community were on E3 last week, Apple’s WWDC event was ongoing in San Francisco. While not a whole lot of it was dedicated to games, senior VP of iOS at Apple Scott Forstall dropped some interesting statistics regarding Apple’s Game Center platform.
Forstall called Game Center “the most popular gaming platform on the planet,” revealing that there are presently over 100,000 games and titles available on the App Store. That’s not all, while Microsoft was showing off more of Kinect and Xbox, Apple had a friendly message for their long-time rivals.
“In just nine months we have 50 million Game Center users,” he said. “To put that into perspective Xbox Live has been around for about eight years and they have around 30 million users.”
That is quite a staggering figure, showing that the mobile/smartphone space is continuing to grow at a rather steady pace.
