Google quietly updated its Videos app on Thursday to support the Wi-Fi version of the Xoom. Following a weeks-long delay, the cheaper and carrier-free tablet can now rent movies that have been available to the 3G Xoom and to devices like the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The app doesn’t appear to work flawlessly and has created some problems for early users.
Rooted Xooms also won’t work, although this is believed to be a permanent omission with studios wary of piracy from those trying to get around copy protection.
Videos works on both Android 2.x and 3.x tablets. As of this writing, the Market listing wasn’t working correctly and suggested Google might have released it prematurely.
