MSI has just introduced new notebooks in the form of the 14-inch X460 and X460DX. Either offers a 2GHz Intel Core i7 processor but ships with a 2.3GHz Core i5. Both have Intel Wireless Display, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0 technology built-in. The X640 weighs less than 4.4lbs and is less than one inch thick, with MSI quick to point out it’s the lightest quad Core i7-powered notebook on shelves.
Other than size and weight, the two differ in terms of graphics hardware. The X460 only offers Intel’s HD Graphics 3000 chip, while the DX gets NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 540M GPU when paired with the Core i5. It thus supports DirectX 11. It supports MSI GPU Boost tech too to take a load off the discrete graphics when not needed. An LED light informs users of which mode it’s on.
A second internal hard drive can be ordered for either notebook, and an SSD is also available. A 720p webcam is standard fare on either model as well, as is a 500GB hard drive, a dual-layer DVD drive, and Wi-Fi, along with an SDXC card reader.
Prices or ship dates for the two notebooks haven’t been revealed, which is very common at this point with MSI.
