Apple on Monday stepped up its conflict with HTC again on Monday by filing a new complaint with the International Trade Commission. The gripe follows the first complaint in alleging that multiple HTC devices violate its patents. An ITC complaint if successful would ban the hardware from sale.
The new motion would likely be a reaction to initial views in favor of HTC that could leave HTC with the primary advantage. It already has its own ITC dispute with Apple that could keep the iPad and iPhone off the market if successful.
Although Apple has included Windows phones in its original dispute, it’s believed most of the focus is on hurting the adoption of Android. HTC is the largest supporter of Android outside of Samsung and is often one of the top choices on US carriers when the iPhone isn’t available.
HTC hadn’t responded to the new complaint as of mid-morning but may counter with legal action of its own.
