Google has launched Photovine for iOS, its new photo sharing service. Access to the service is currently invite-only, so downloaders must either request entry in-app or visit the official Photovine website. The app is a free download and runs on any iOS device running iOS 4.2 or better.
The service revolves around a concept known as “vines.” A user will upload a single photo and caption it; the caption becomes the basis for a vine, to which people can attach similarly-themed photos. In other respects Photovine shares similarities with rivals like Instagram and Facebook.
The iOS app is notably the current focus of Google’s promotions; no Android app is present on the Android Market.
