The neo-retro gaming craze continues with a new iOS game featuring “eight-bit” style graphics and simple but addictive gameplay. The Last Rocket casts players as Flip, the last rocket assembled for a now-finished intergalactic war, who must now collect a series of scattered Memory Gears. The game boasts 64 rooms of obstacles for the Flip to negotiate, an original “chiptunes” soundtrack, achievements and more.
The game will remind players of VVVVVV, a similarly retro-style 2D game where the player can “flip” to walk on either ceilings or floors in order to pass safely through a series of rooms. Similar “quest-style” games include Meganoid, Sword & Sworcery and the recent appearance of modern versions of genuine 80s “eight-bit” games like Galaga for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
The Last Rocket requires iOS 3.2 or later and is a universal app across iOS devices. The game costs $2.99
