Verizon today announced that with Aug. 18’s planned network expansion, its Long Term Evolution 4G services will be available to more than half the population of the U.S. The operator is flipping the 4G switch in 15 new markets tomorrow, and expanding its LTE presence in an additional 10 markets. Combined with earlier market launches, Verizon’s LTE network blankets 160 million POPs in 117 cities around the country.
Some of the new markets going live on Aug. 18 include: Tucson, Ariz.; Fort Collins, Colo.; Frederick, Md.; Worcester, Mass.; Albany, Ithaca, and Syracuse, N.Y.; Altoona and Johnstown, Pa.; Memphis, Tenn.; and Provo, Utah. Cities seeing LTE expansion on Aug. 18 include Washington, D.C.; Tampa, Fla.; Atlanta, Ga.; Baltimore, Md.; Boston, Mass.; Lansing, Mich.; New York, N.Y.; Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; and Salt Lake City-Ogden, Utah. Verizon will continue to launch its LTE network in new markets throughout this year and into 2012. It expects to have 185 million POPs covered by the end of 2011.
