Popular streaming music site MOG has released a beta client for Mac OS X that replicates and extends the current browser-based experience with all the features and design of the HTML5-based web player. The desktop version adds a completely new audio engine, support for Apple’s remote controls and standard media-key support as found on Apple’s current keyboards and even native Airplay support for Airport Express, AppleTV and other Airplay devices.

MOG offers high-quality 320kbps audio and access to 11 million songs and over one million albums for $10 per month, or a more basic service for $5 per month. MOG features a music discovery engine based on songs the user indicates that they like, and also has personalized recommendations based on habits with the service as well as artist “likes” on Facebook. Tagged friends’ selections can also be incorporated into the playlist, and users can check out top rated songs, new releases, editor’s picks and more. The service can even be set to work while offline.

New clients can download the app for a 14-day free trial of the MOG Primo ($10 per month) level of service. In addition to the new Mac client, the company offers clients for iOS and some Android devices, and also supports Roku and Sonos streaming devices, and even some internet-connected television and Blu-Ray players. The $5 level of service includes access through the web and Mac client and Roku devices, but does not include support for mobile or other Apple devices or Sonos players.
