Vuzix has expanded its virtual display eye-wear with the launch of its new Wrap 1200VR 3D wrap-around glasses. The new lenses create the equivalent of a 75-inch virtual screen being viewed from ten feet. The 1200VR enhances the 1200 series announced in August with support for side-by-side 3D video formats and head tracking.
The Wrap 1200VR uses dual WVGA 852×480 LCD screens that can handle up to 720p images while keeping a 60Hz progressive scan refresh rate. Together, the LCDs offer a 35-degree diagonal field of view. The displays provide independent focal adjustment for each eye. A pair connects to a computer using USB and either a VGA or DVI port.
Currently, the 1200VR only works with Windows computers. The company plans to add video playback for additional devices including the Xbox 360, PS3, iPod touch, iPhone, DVD players, and cable boxes.
Priced at $600, the Wrap 1200VR video eyewear is available now directly from Vuzix.
