Denon has unveiled a pure digital network hub, the DNP-720AE Network Audio Player. The device like some of Denon’s more recent home theater hardware has AirPlay support for streaming music wirelessly from an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or iTunes library back to an audio component or home theater system. DLNA 1.5 support eases access with other devices.
A three-line OLED display guides users through the interface. A front-panel USB port provides for MP3 player or smartphone links. The device also incorporates a traditional AM/FM radio tuner. For output, the DNP-720AE carries two-channel analog stereo through RCA connectors, or digital out through a fiber-optic port. Inside the DNP-720AE is a four-bit, 192kHz DAC. Strictly digital audio comes through up to 24-bit FLAC audio. The player can be controlled through an IR remote or through iOS compatible apps.
The Network Audio Player is priced at $500 in the US.
