Dell today finally unveiled its heavily promoted Adamo ultraportable notebook, their answer to Apple’s MacBook Air.
The etched, designer aluminum chassis that measures just 0.65 inches and the hinge design gives more expansion than Apple’s Air- providing space for Ethernet, DisplayPort, eSATA and three USB connectors. eSTATA means you can add a hard drive which can run at data though put of an internal drive. The Air on the other hand comes with only one USB 2.0 port and a mini DisplayPort. But, the Adamo needs to go on diet coming 4 pounds compared to the Air’s 3 pounds.
The Adamo has a 13.4-inch, 1366×768 LED-backlit display, a backlit keyboard and a solid-state 128GB drive as the only internal storage. Dell estimates about 5 hours of battery life for the unit.
Dell has chosen to give the Adamo slower but more power-efficient ULV Core 2 Duo processors compared to the MacBook Air.
A base model costs $1,999 with a 1.2GHz processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi. The $2,699 version increases the speed to 1.4GHz, doubles memory to 4GB and adds a 3G modem.
Dell is taking orders today and expects systems to arrive on March 26th.
