HTC has made the budget friendly Explorer official. Formerly known as the HTC Pico, the new handset is set to drop in beneath the HTC Wildfire S in its line-up and is expected to be priced below $200. As an entry-level device, its specs are somewhat modest against the latest crop of high-end smartphones and is powered by a 600MHz processor.
The middling processor is, however, matched with a reasonable 500MB of RAM, which should combine to give the handset reasonable performance. The Explorer centers on a 3.2-inch HVGA display with a resolution of 480×320 pixels. It incorporates a three-megapixel camera on the rear. It also weighs just 3.81 ounces with the battery installed.
The device is running the latest build of Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) and is also given HTC’s latest Sense UI treatment in version 3.5.
The HTC Explorer will be available after September in range of colors including Metallic Blue, Metallic Orange, Metallic White and Metallic Purple.
