A dispute over money between TV company 20th Century Fox and the actors who provide the voices for characters in the hugely popular TV show the Simpsons, could jeopardize the future of the program.
Insiders have revealed that Fox has threatened to pull the plug on the show completely after the 23rd season, if the cast do not agree to a drastic pay cut.
Although the network has threatened to replace the actors with others that sound like them in the past, this is the first time that TV executives have insisted that if the cast do not accept a pay cut of around 45 per cent each, then they will not commission new episodes beyond the 23rd series.
A statement issued by Fox stated that the company felt that “this brilliant series can and should continue”, but warned that “we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model”.
