JBL has shown off the MS-2 digital signal processor. It promises to make stock in-car sound systems sound better, most of all for smartphones like Android and iPhone devices. It routes to the car’s audio system through standard 3.5mm audio inputs and with a relatively hands-free design.
Once connected, pressing the Setup button will start the automatic tuning process that takes into account the tonal balance, bass impact and sonic clarity of the vehicle’s speakers. Users can then fine tune the bass, treble, impact and image with separate controls. A defeat switch lets users compare their settings to the standard setup without unplugging the device.
It can even be used at home, but requires a separate power source from a third party. The standard kit includes a 6V DC power supply that plugs into a car’s cigarette lighter (12V) adapter.
The JBL MS-2 is priced at $240 list, though prices of $200 have been spotted on the web already.
