Adobe has released the first iOS version of Reader, its dedicated PDF viewer. While iOS can already open PDF files, Reader supports some additional features, such as the ability to load portfolios, packages, annotations and drawing markups. Users can open documents protected by passwords or Adobe LiveCycle, and launch files in other apps using an “Open In” command. Likewise, Reader becomes an option in any other iOS title that supports Open In.
Reading can be done in single-page or continuous scrolling modes, and supports search and bookmarking. Like the Reader desktop software, a thumbnail viewer makes it easier to jump to specific pages. Some output options include emailing PDFs as attachments or printing them via AirPrint.
Reader is a free download. Users must have iOS 4.2.5 or later; supported devices include iPads, the iPhone 4, 4S and 3GS, and finally third- or fourth-generation iPod touches. Many languages are already supported, ranging from mainstays like English, Chinese and French through to Czech, Polish and Turkish.
