A teaser video for the forthcoming NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor has leaked out. Codenamed Kal-El, the system-on-a-chip runs a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, which is accompanied by a fifth Cortex A9 core clocked at 500MHz for running tasks such as web browsing and listening to music. The graphics performance delivered by the 12-core graphics engine helps the processor outperform even Intel’s older Core 2 Duo processors.
The processor is expected to double the performance of NIVIDA’s Tegra 2 for general computing, but it will also deliver three times faster visuals. The Tegra 3 can play video at resolutions of 2560×1440 and power even 30-inch external displays.
The ASUS Transformer 2 is expected to be the first tablet to run the chip, and is expected to ship in November. The leaking of the teaser video suggests that the formal launch of NIVIDIA’s latest flagship mobile processor should arrive soon.
