Spotify answered one of its most requests Wednesday by releasing a test version of Spotify for BlackBerry. The early app gives much of the same music streaming as in the Android, iPhone, and Symbian versions, including offline caching and Last.fm scrobbling to track plays. Its current version requires an SD card and won’t limit caching to Wi-Fi.
The app is officially supported so far only on BlackBerry 6 and earlier devices using GSM. Spotify said it had tested on the Bold 9000, 9700, and 9780, as well as the Curve 8520 and 9300 (Curve 3G). Other users have reported getting it to work on BlackBerry 7 devices like the Bold 9900 and Torch 9810, although they aren’t guaranteed to work properly. The Torch 9800 has been singled out as unsupported so far.
Any mobile device on Spotify needs a Premium account to work, which in the US costs $10 per month. The music service hasn’t given an estimate for when it expects a finished version, but it will be available through BlackBerry App World when ready.
