GoPro on Monday rolled out its latest active lifestyle camera, the HD Hero 2. Its lens promises to be twice as sharp as the original and it gets a number of other enhancements. The Hero 2 can shoot ten 11-megapixel photos in one second with a time lapse feature that will capture an image every 0.5, one, two, 10, 30, and 60 seconds.

Its lens can also now shoot at medium angle 127-degree and narrow angle 90-degree fields of view at the native 1080p resolution. At 960p, there is a new 48FPS feature, while the 720p resolution setting brings the medium and narrow field of views. Finally, in wide VGA resolution, there is a new high-speed 120FPS setting.

The new camera is compatible with all existing HD Hero accessories. Its introduction also means price drops for the existing cameras, with the original HD Hero trading for $200 and the 960 model costing $150.

The HD Hero 2 itself costs $299 and is available in three bundles. The Outdoor edition includes a vented helmet strap, head strap, curved and flat adhesive mounts, and a three-way pivot arm. The Motorsports edition shares the latter three but replaces the first two with a suction cup mount and J-Hook buckle. The Surf edition forgoes all of the preceding for surfboard mounts, FCS plug mounts, and a floating backdoor add-on.
