GameStop revealed on Friday that some of its stores will get the ASUS Transformer Prime as soon as this weekend, albeit for demonstration purposes only. It will become the first retailer to let customers get their hands on the quad-core Tegra 3-powered device. The tablet is available for pre-order from the gaming retailer now, with online orders due to begin shipping on December 19.
The faster design was pitched as ideal for GameStop, since it allows for “even more immersive tablet gaming,” GameStop president Tony Bartel said.
Those who buy the tablets at GameStop will get free games that include Shadowgun, the Kongregate Arcade app and a digital issue of Game Informer magazine.
The 32GB Wi-Fi tablet is expected to cost $540 at GameStop, or $40 more than at other retailers like Best Buy.
