Although Toshiba has yet to announce US launch plans for its Excite tablet, the company has confirmed that it will be arriving in Canada early in 2012. The 10.1 inch tablet, which was first officially unveiled earlier this year at the IFA expo, will serve as the successor to the company’s Thrive tablet, bringing a wide range of improvements.

The Excite switches from a Tegra chipset to a TI OMAP 4430 chip that runs at 1.2GHz and powers Android 3.2 Honeycomb. The new design maintains the same camera options as the Thrive, placing a 2.0-megapixel sensor on the front and a 5.0-megapixel camera on the back. Other hardware features include a microSD slot, HDMI output and a choice between 16GB and 32GB of integrated storage.

Toshiba’s website does not provide a full set of hardware specs, however the new tablet is believed to be much thinner than the Thrive. Overall build quality and materials are also said to be improved, taking advantage of metal construction.

The Excite will land in Canada sometime in January. Pricing details and launch plans for other markets have yet to be announced.
