Virgin Mobile has announced that it is finally ready to begin its throttling plans, which were mentioned last year but never implemented in October as promised. The carrier suggests it will reduce connection speeds for users who surpass 2.5GB of monthly usage on a Beyond Talk plan.
The company never provided detailed reasons for delaying its throttling plans, however the move was believed to be related to Sprint’s trouble maintaining subscriber numbers and the iPhone 4S launch.
Despite the fresh commitment to throttle connections, the company has left the language vague. A notice notes that data speeds “may” be reduced to 256Kbps or slower for the rest of the month after a user reaches 2.5GB, however the company has not fully detailed what conditions need to be met before the speed is slashed.
The throttling system is said to be set to go into effect on March 23.
