Today Ford said its MyFord Touch 2 car upgrade was heading out to customers this week. About 300,000 cars that qualify for the upgrade would get a free USB flash drive in the mail that would bring them to the new interface.
The packages will include a USB flash drive with the updated software, a notification letter, detailed instructions for the 60-minute download, and an updated user guide. Navigation-equipped vehicle owners also will receive an updated SD card with all-new, updated map data. An upgrade is expected to take about an hour
Any 2013 model year car that doesn’t already have the version 2 update should get the update too. Ford also announced the 2013 Flex and Taurus would both ship with the upgrade.
MyFord Touch 2 is primarily an interface update which greatly simplifies the layout following complaints about the initial generation. It does significantly improve playback for those tethered to the system through an iPhone, Android device, or BlackBerry. Sync Destinations can likewise now send information to the phone first to get an offline copy of directions to be synced to the car later.
