Yamaha has introduced two new models as part of its AV receiver line, the RX-V473 and RX-V573, which now both add AirPlay compatibility with iOS and other AirPlay devices. The new models also offer up to 4K resolution video pass-through, four HDMI inputs, 3D video and front-panel USB input. While both offer 115 watts per channel, the V573 is a 7.1-channel model, while the V473 is a 5.1-channel model.
Both models are now DLNA-compliant, and have four rear digital inputs (two coaxial, two optical) in addition to the USB ports on the front, and also have ARC (audio return channel) support. Both are also controllable via the Yamaha AV Controller app, available for iOS, Android and the Kindle Fire. Neither model have any built-in streaming support apart from AirPlay.
The primary differences with the V573 model apart from the 7.1-channel audio is the addition of Dolby Pro Logic IIx. The V473 will retail for $450, while the V573 sells for $550. Both models are available now, but the company has already said that more mid-range offerings are coming soon.
