Mozilla has taken a stand against the Internet security bill CISPA. In a statement to Forbes, Mozilla’s Privacy and Public Policy lead says that the CISPA bill had “a broad and alarming reach that goes far beyond Internet security.”
The statement described the bill as including “vague definitions of cybersecurity, and grants immunities to companies and government that are too broad around information misuse,” finishing with a wish for the Senate to take all the issues into consideration.
Other organizations and interest groups such as the EFF have spoken out against CISPA, with hacker activist group Anonymous organizing protests against companies supporting the bill. The White House had threatened to veto the bill prior to it passing Congress unless the bill was amended with additional protections for user privacy and civil liberties. It is unknown if the amendments have gone far enough to satisfy the administration.
