Ubisoft will host a multiplayer beta this summer for its upcoming first-person shooter Far Cry 3.
The closed testing period will run for a two-week period, the publisher announced in a statement. No dates were provided.
The beta will feature matches with up to 16 players, and across a variety of maps and game modes. Players will have six classes to choose from and customizable weapons.
The primary method of gaining access is by purchasing a copy of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, out next Tuesday, at any GameStop. Consumers must also have a PowerUp Rewards membership with the retailer.
Players will then receive an invitation code redeemed through GameStop’s website, which they can use to receive a download code for their PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
For those that want to avoid this process, Ubisoft plans on giving away beta codes through their Facebook page and several other outlets.
Far Cry 3 takes place on a mysterious island ruled by pirates. It launches on Sept. 4 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
