Toshiba has announced its latest ultrabook, the U840W. The U840W major feature is super widescreen 21:9 (7:3) ratio 14.4-inch display running at a 1792×768 resolution. Toshiba says that the ratio matches the anamorphic image format used in many widescreen films, so it can display those movies without letter boxing (black bars) them..
The 21:9 ratio display used in the U8410W also allows users to view multiple windows side-by-side without requiring them to be overlapped. Toshiba’s split screen utility lets users view content in the standard 16:9 screen ratio, leaving space for an additional 5:9 window. Stereo sound is provided by harman/kardon.
The ultrabook is made with a brushed metal finish with a woven pattern Toshiba is know for to make it easier to grip. It also sports an oversize trackpad and backlite keyboard . there are provided by three USB 3.0 ports, it uses a 32GB SSD for booting the OS which is partnered by a 500GB standard hard drive.
UK pricing starts at £899 ($1381 US), with US pricing and specific availability not disclosed at this time.
