Over 3 million downloads of OS X Mountain Lion have been achieved in a span of four days, Apple has announced. In a press release, the company calls Mountain Lion “the most successful OS X release in Appleās history.” As a side note, though, the company says that promised Facebook integration will be delivered in an “upcoming software update” for the OS.
It’s uncertain how many of the 3 million downloads were paid upgrades. Apple is currently running a free upgrade program for people who have bought a new Mac since June 11th; one speculative estimate recently put the number of paid upgrades at 90 percent, which with official Apple numbers would translate into 2.7 million. At a cost of about $20 per license, that could mean that Apple has already pulled in roughly $54 million in revenue.
