The internet is abuzz with rumors (originating at Vulture) that Walt Disney Pictures is planning to reboot their 1991 comic book adaptation The Rocketeer. The site suggests that no talent is currently attached to the project, but that the studio is hearing pitches from writers to decide on an appropriate take. At this time, however, there is no confirmation from the studio that such a project is underway.
Created by Dave Stevens in 1982, Rocketeer was first published by Pacific Comics. Set in 1938, the story follows stunt pilot Cliff Secord who comes into possession of an experimental jetpack that allows him to take his fight for justice to the skies.
The original film starred Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin and Timothy Dalton and, while much loved by fans today, failed to live up to studio expectations at the box office.
