Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced that it has acquired social media portfolio service Behance. With over one million members, the acquisition of Behance underlines Adobe’s planned strategy to bring community features to its Creative Cloud. The Behance team will remain in New York City and will continue to expand the product, which will remain free to all users.

The official Adobe blog states that the acquisition “accelerates our efforts to enable a more open and collaborative creative community.” A gradual integration of the service is expected in the Creative Cloud series of products, which will give users “the ability to seek feedback, showcase your work and distribute it across devices.”

All Creative Cloud members will gain access to the base Behance capabilities of portfolio creation and other community features with no specific timetable given other than “soon.” Paid Creative Cloud members will be able to access premium capabilities like Behance ProSite at the same time as the rollout of the free functionality.
